I have created a virtual space for real time interaction, open discussion and coaching with me.

The Virtual Midwife Chat room is hands down the most fun I have had since becoming the Virtual Midwife. As long as we both have a good wifi connection we can connect from around the globe and enjoy the benefits and value of sharing the right information at the right time.
You don’t have to wait for your next Doctors appointment to ask your questions or get reassurance. Hop onto one of the sessions and ask away. Listen to other mom’s and get answers to questions you never even knew you had. Share your funny experiences and learn about birth practices in other parts of the world.
There is so much information out there that at times it feels overwhelming.Every week I share a little bit of wisdom fuelled by the questions you ask in the chat room. My expertise lies in making it interesting and understandable. I am able to weave my experience into yours in a way that makes sense and allows you to fully embrace and enjoy your pregnancy.
I also offer 1:1 sessions if you need some extra nurturing or have specific needs that I am unable to satisfy in the chat room. All the chat room sessions are recorded, so if you miss one you can go back and listen later as well as the archive of sessions and notes. Oh, and don’t forget the secret Facebook group for members only to share and inspire.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I pay for information that I can find free online?

Yes, there is tons of free information available, but it is not organised or structured. I have done the research and the homework for you. The value of this program is that I have taken the best of the best and I share it with you in bite size chunks at the right time – when you are ready for it and when you need it. Your birth experience is a memory of a lifetime. Let me help you to make it a positive one.

How do I know if this is right for me?

I work with women from all around the world and one thing is certain, you all have the same fears around giving birth. Everything about this program is directed towards leading you towards feeling safe and confident to make choices and decisions.  Preparing for motherhood cannot be done in a day or a week or even a month. It is a process that takes love and dedication. I love what I do and I am dedicated to helping you. If you’re drawn to working with me, it’s probably for good reason. Your intuition is stronger than you think and it is a strong component of the programs that I offer. You will get out what you put in.

What sets this program apart from other programs?

The biggest difference is that it is interactive. This is not just another online program that leaves you to work though the information in your own time. I am here for you every step of the way. Every week you have the opportunity to ask questions, get feedback, share your triumphs and your challenges. You will be getting valuable information throughout your pregnancy and as your needs change. I tailor the care JUST FOR YOU.

Why do I need a childbirth class?

If you did not have access to so much information on the internet, you probably would not need a class. Unfortunately there is SO MUCH available at the moment that it is easy to be overwhelmed. It has become increasingly difficult to know where to start, what is important and what you absolutely need to know. With the increase in medicalization of childbirth and risk averse environment, you might also want to learn the tools to avoid interventions, medication, and a cesarean.

The Virtual Midwife program is formulated in a way that makes it easy for you to understand. I will literally take your hand and guide you step by step on your path to parenthood.  It is crucial that you know your options, if you don’t, then essentially you don’t have any.

Will I be tied in?

If you choose the monthly package then you only stay for as long as you are getting benefit. Easy in and easy out. If you take one of the other packages that require a one time payment and you decide that its not for you, I require a written notification outlining your reasons and a refund will be negotiated mutually based on the circumstances.

What is a Discovery call?

This is the time to get to know you a bit better. Where do you live? What access do you have to prenatal care? What are your expectations? Where will you be giving birth? Do you know what questions to ask your care provider? What are your greatest fears? This session enables me to steer you towards the right resources and information and which package would be the best fit for you and your partner.

How does the Weekly group online hangout & coaching work?

The group coaching sessions are delivered using Zoom and they are drop-in calls for members only. I call this the Virtual Midwife Chat room. Its a bit like inviting me and a group of pregnant friends into your living room to get answers to your questions about pregnancy and learn interesting facts.   You can join in live with as many or as few as you like. Sessions are recorded so you can listen again but I encourage all members to aim to join in live so that you can get answers to all YOUR questions. By joining regularly you will get to know the other women in the group and often you will get answers to your questions before you even ask them. All members will receive email invitations and reminders. All time zones are catered for.

What is the Topic of Month?

Every month we choose a relevant topic, often in response to a question from a member (Please leave us a voicemail using the option at the side of the webpage). Using Zoom technology there will be a brief 15 minute presentation to explain key concepts of the topic, followed by 30 minutes Q&A and discussion among members. This is another aspect of the Virtual Midwife Chat Room and it is YOUR space.

How do private coaching calls work?

You can choose when you will take these calls. I recommend that you book a call one week after joining, the next call 2 weeks before your expected due date and the last within a week of giving birth. This gives you ample opportunity to get answers to all your questions and for the me to share my knowledge and expertise personalized to suit you and your situation. The calls are focused on shifting any fears or limiting beliefs you might have about your ability to give birth or become a parent. The program is focused on change and results and there is consistent structure and accountability. If you are still unsure, why not book a call here

What if I need additional calls or a call that is not included in my package?
Just head on over here choose your call and book. Easy peasy.
What is covered in the Understanding Birth eClass?

This class forms the basis for the group coaching calls, topic of the month, webinars, yoga classes and audio downloads that you will get every month in the membership area.

The eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities, and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their birth.

1. Pregnancy 2. Labor 3. Birth Stories 4. Comfort Measures 5. Medical Procedures 6. Caesarian Birth 7. Newborns 8. Postpartum

What happens in a webinar?

A webinar is an interactive class conducted via the web. It happens in real time so you can see the presenter’s screen on your PC, notebook or tablet from the comfort of your home or wherever you choose. You may participate, if you wish, by asking questions via the online portal. If you cannot attend the live session, a recording of the webinar will be sent to all registered participants.

What do you mean by a closed community group?

Most people use Facebook as a way of staying in touch with friends and family back home and sharing insights into life abroad. The Virtual Midwife has a private space for members only to receive & provide support to each other. It is an opportunity to share your experiences and feel connected to others in similar situations and in doing so find a sense of belonging. But the most significant benefit are the regular posts by the Virtual Midwife team with purposeful themes designed to engage and inform. This is a place for you to get round the clock support and advice.

What is a Personalized Graphic Birth Plan?

If you are still feeling unsure of your choices after completing the program, you might consider a one on one coaching session with me to discuss the choices and options available to you wherever you are, and fine tune what is important to you. This information will be put into a simple personalized birth plan with easy to understand graphics and icons. The accompanying text document can be translated into any foreign language but the impact lies in the pictures because everyone understands pictures. Print and laminate and take it with you to the hospital to ensure that your needs and desires are met. See example here.

What Expats Expecting Members Are Saying

Don’t just take it from me, let our members do the talking!

The antenatal course was brilliant for both my husband and I – she shared her vast midwifery knowledge in a sensible yet fun way.’Karen instills confidence through her calming and reassuring approach. Debs & Pete

Teachers

Karen was invaluable to be before, during and after the birth of my first baby. I appreciated her warm nature, years of midwifery experience, sense of humor and fear-free approach. I have had two lovely water births- something I hadn’t even considered before meeting her. Sarah Marshall

Neuro-Developmental Therapist

Throughout my wife’s pregnancies I often felt overlooked and rather like a spare wheel. Karen was the only person to make me feel entitled to share and take part in the birth experience. For that I will always be immensely grateful. Ross Baird
